Dee Sapp is an Author, Nonprofit Founder, Executive Director for 2 Nonprofits, Consultant, Volunteer, Board Member and Disability Advocate.
Dee holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Penn State in Human Development and Family Studies with a focus on Life Span Human Development.
In October 2020, Dee became a first-time author penning her first published work in the co-authored compilation, The Nonprofit Legacy. Her chapter titled, “Inclusion Matters” provides context to her nonprofit journey and delivers an interminable story of resilience and hope. She is the Vice Chair for the Charles County Special Education Citizens Advisory Committee (SECAC) and a board member of Down Syndrome Sports of America.
Dee is the Founder and Executive Director of a 501 (c ) 3 nonprofit organization, Accessibility Bridge Corporation, whose mission is to promote inclusion and create access for people with disabilities in every area of their community. The organization encourages and empowers people with disabilities to integrate into society by connecting them with resources and communities that makes this integration possible. She founded Accessibility Bridge due to unnecessary challenges she and her son faced due to inequitable systems and barriers. Dee has a son with autism and an intellectual disability and feels strongly that all children should learn, play, and advance in inclusive environments. She supports her son, a US Paralympian and swimmer, to advocate for himself and focuses on advocacy for people with disabilities and their families.
Dee is also the Executive Director for The Sonrise Project, an organization with a misison to promote the optimal mental health of sons and daughters through advocacy, education, and support.
In June 2019, Dee was appointed to a 4-year term by Governor Larry Hogan to the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council. In 2023, Dee was elected as Chair of the Council and was appointed to a 5-year term by Governor Wes Moore to continue her work with the Council.
